DCQ QUESTION FOR DR. HEIDEGGER'S EXPERIMENT:
"Yes, friends, ye are old again...Well-I bemoan it not; for if the fountain of youth gushed at my very doorstep, I would not stoop to bathe my lips in it." -Dr. Heidegger
Throughout the story, Dr, Heidegger speaks of the fountain of youth. The thought of being able to drink from this fountain to grow youthful again consumes the four friends' minds, driving them to foolishly dance around Dr. Heidegger's study with joy and drink what the physician gives them without question. Though they do grow young again, whether it be pure magic or just in their imagination, the drink fails as the four characters look into the mirror and see themselves as they really are-old and aging. Do you think that humans should have the right to alter time and their passage through it, or should they simply accept their fate and never attempt to change it?
Defend/challenge/qualify using evidence from Dr. Heidegger's Experiment as well as from history, current events, or literature.
Also remember to bring your copy of the story to class tomorrow!
