3. John the Baptist Summary: John the Baptist baptized Jesus to humanize him so that he could suffer like any other man. Later on, King Herod’s daughter falls in love with John, but he refuses her. It doesn’t help that John also criticized King Herod, and so he is sentenced to death for his criticism and because he refused his daughter. Charaters: John, Jesus, King Herod, King Herod’s daughter Allusion: From Greek Mythology Tethys = John the Baptist Achilles = Jesus Achilles being dipped in the water = baptism In Greek mythology, it is rumored that if a baby is dipped into the waters of the Styx River, the baby will be immune to harm where its skin made contact with the water, making it invincible. The nymph Tethys, Achilles’ mother, decides to dip Achilles into the waters of the Styx River, but she forgot to submerge a portion of his heel that she was holding onto. Even though in the baptism of Jesus, Jesus’ baptism was meant to humanize him and make him able to feel pain, Achilles is being dipped into the water to become invincible; however, despite this, his Achilles’ heel is vulnerable, which can also be another similar weak point from his baptism. This allusion serves to make Achilles important from the time of his baptism, because he is undergoing the same baptism process Jesus had to undergo

ok, no direct offense against sherry, but this isn't the best allusion... or summary. just look up the actual passage from the bible, and use the term "head on a platter" as the allusion.

this is the wrong direction for allusion. something from ancient history (BC) cannot allude to something that had not happened yet (AD).
