Name: The Promised Land
Characters: Moses – favored by God and was chosen to lead the Hebrew to the Promised Land from Egypt.
Summary: The “promised land” was the land given to the Israelites by God after they left Egypt after being promised to Abraham and his descendents. Upon reaching the Promised Land after forty years, God told Moses to send twelve men into the land, but the men returned and said that the land was fertile, but was inhabited by strong people. The Israelites did not believe that God would help them to victory against the strong people. Thus, God punished them by forcing them to wander for another forty years. When the forty years were over, the people returned to the Promised Land, but Moses was forbidden to enter and instead lived the rest of his life on Mount Nebo.

Moses=Elrond, Promised Land=Undying Lands
In The Lord of the Rings, after defeating Sauron and his forces, the Fellowship of the Ring gathers one last time to crown Aragorn. This conflict between the Middle Kingdom and Sauron represents the long period of time when the Israelites were enslaved. When the conflict is resolved, the Israelites, led by Moses, make their journey home to the Promised Land. In the book, Elrond leads the elves, Bilbo, and others to the Undying Lands. Like the Promised Land, the Undying Lands are where the elves and the other groups originated and only through war and harsh conditions were they able to return home.
