a. Summary: Lucifer is another name for Satan, or the Devil. Lucifer was once one of God's angels. He was perfect in every aspect, except for his having free will. Lucifer sought to overthrow God and Jesus and take power for himself. Lucifer gathered other angels as followers, and proceeded to wage the War in Heaven against God and His angels. Jealousy of Jesus Christ lead him to revolt, which failed in the end. Lucifer and his followers were removed from Heaven and sent to Hell, where Lucifer reigns. Lucifer continues his battle here on Earth by corrupting God's creations. b. Allusion: In the Tom and Jerry cartoon “Heavenly Puss,” Spike the dog makes an appearance as Satan in Hell. Spike is seen with Satan's signature trident and in his usual red, as well as a cauldron with a boiling liquid. Spike portrays Satan as a scary, undesirable being because he is eager to eat Tom if he fails to board the Heavenly Express in time. When Tom fails, he is instantly dropped into Spike's cauldron. He tries to escape, but is always pushed back in by a laughing Spike. This signifies the strong hold that Lucifer has over the people he claim as his. When Tom awakens an realizes that it was all a dream, he is extremely happy, and proceeds to kiss Jerry profusely rather than attempt to kill him, indicating his pleasure of not being the Devil's property. The same can be said of most Christians; they are happy to not associate with the Devil.
