QUICK synopsis
a) Moses was sent floating down a river as a baby when the princess of Egypt finds him. She raises him until he runs away after killing a slave driver. He runs to the east and marries, staying until he is 80. Then an Angel appears to him in the form of a burning bush telling him to lead the Israelites out of slavery. In Egypt, God unleashes the 10 plagues and helps Moses run away with his people. They cross the Red Sea with God's help. God also gives them food to eat. Back at the bush months later, God gives Moses the Ten Commandments and promises Moses some land. God orders Moses to build a mobile worshipping center and made Aaron and his sons the priests. Throughout the story, Moses was very reluctant to talk at all and the Jews were not very obedient but God forgave them.
b) A major allusion to this journey is the novel "Grapes of Wrath" which incorporates the story much like "East of Eden" did with "Cain and Abel". The novel covers the burning bush (Jim Casy), the promised land (Ma and California), the baby in the basket (Rose of Sharon's dead baby), and much of the physical journey of Moses is represented in the book by the Oakies.
